Internet Explorer 7

I saw something today that suggested that IE7 will be pushed out as a "high priority update" with Microsoft's patches for Patch Tuesday. I sincerely hope this is not true. As a web developer who has seen CSS code not work as intended with IE7, I really hope it's not true. I haven't had enough time to fix my code yet. That said, I really do like IE7. I'm really happy with the layout. I really like the "mini-tab to open a tab" thing. Most people are unaware of how the printing engine of IE7 has changed, but it brings the welcome addition of scaling to page. In fact, the only thing that is simply KILLING me about IE7 is how the Refresh button is on the right side of the address bar, and apparently, unmovable. Other than that, IE7 gets a big thumbs up from me. I just hope they don't push it too soon.

iChat AV

I have not really used iChat much since owning a Mac. For one, I've been very happy with Gaim, and the premier third party IM tool for Macs is Adium, which is based on libgaim. Adium has been wildly successful for me, it's easy to use, gorgeous, themeable, integrates very well into the Mac UI, and above all, supports all the IM protocols I use. Recently, I've noticed that I rarely use any of the IM tools but Google Talk. In fact, there's only one person on my contacts list that I regularly IM that doesn't use Google Talk. So when my buddy Benny got an iMac recently, it never even occured to me to use the video chat built into iChat. That is, until Friday. iChat is one of the coolest apps for your Mac if you've got an iSight camera to accompany it. First off, the video from broadband connection to broadband connection is excellent. The audio is extremely clear; while it may not be cell phone clear, it's still more than clear enough for regular conversations. In fact, it really makes the phone second rate. I'm encouraging my parents to think Mac not just because of all...

Freaking Insane

This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen on YouTube. Seriously, this guy deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. I'm not sure which Hall of Fame, but one of them, somewhere. I don't recall ever seeing Tony Hawk, Bam Margera, or any other professional skateboarder do even 1/10th of what this guy does. And when I do see them, they screw up and fall after ever third move. Personally, I never got into skateboarding, but this guy is a freain' gymnast.

Yes, DRM Matters!!!

I have never really gotten into the whole debate over Digital Rights Management, or "DRM," as it's usually called. In general, I'm not against the concept: if a product has value and is "for sale," it's within the rights of the salesman to take steps to ensure the item is used properly. So long as the technology was unobtrusive, it didn't bother me. Recently, I've been reconsidering. Read on for more.

R.I.P. William Dember

I didn't know William Dember, but apparently, he was my cousin. He was my grandmother's first cousin - her mother's brother's son - which makes him my ...uh ...cousin. A few times removed, probably. Anyway, it turns out he was a fairly decorated man in the field of psychology. In truth, I didn't even know he existed until he died, so it really makes me wonder how much family I have running around out there that I have never even heard of.

We're Expecting!

Introducing Duke... It is our distinct pleasure to introduce you to the newest member of our family, Duke. Duke is 10 weeks old, born just three days before our wedding. duke.jpg Duke is an F1B Labradoodle puppy - his mother "Angel" is an F1 Labradoodle (bred from a yellow lab and a poodle) and his father is a show poodle, which means Duke's got perfect non-shedding, curly hair and no dander (so Jenn can continue to breathe indoors). He will be coming home with us this Friday. We're very excited.

Stoplight Hosed Me

I saw a post on digg.com recently about an application called Stoplight, featured on Lifehacker. It looked cool - it allows you to set up application specific behaviors, such as certain apps being full screen and certain apps closing (Cmd+Q) when the last window is closed. I got a new Core 2 Duo iMac recently, and I've been having problems with it for the last few days. Finder kept crashing, even after I removed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Finder.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist, as I found might help onthe internet. It would crash during a slideshow, it would crash when I opened the "About this Mac" window and then just closed it, it would crash all the time. Eventually, I traced it back not to Uno, which was the original suspect, but rather Stoplight, which is a SIMBL bundle, and that was the problem. That application crashed my system reliably. Thank God I don't have to rebuild it again.

OK GO

Is this cool or what? It's a video for a band called "OK Go," and the entire thing appears to be done in a single take. Very cool! Link

Wedding, Dog

This weekend, JP and I zipped up to a wedding in Alabama. We stayed in Columbus, Georgia and got to spend some time with her family. It was actually a pretty fun weekend, despite two long drives two days apart. Here are the pictures. More importantly, tonight we are heading to visit a Central Florida Labradoodle breeder to check out their puppies. I cannot wait to get a dog.
