OSNews Again

I decided to port over the "Galaxy" stuff to OSNews today. I wasn't sure how long it would take, there were some sloppy mistakes that made it more difficult (like hard coded public paths, but ultimately, it was fairly simple. The trick is that the project is all one set of files, but for osnews, I need to strip out all the admin code and serve that from our secure admin site. I have to say, it works pretty well. One I set up the cron jobs to retreive the headlines and generate RSS, it will be complete. I don't know how many people keep up with Thom or Eugenia's blog, but I'm sure the number of people that read mine is less than 10, especially since I generally suck at updating it. So, we'll see if people take an interest.

iWeb

So, I built my first website yesterday using iWeb from Apple. The entire iLife suite is pretty cool, and really does integrate like they say. Now, to be fair, the product is young, and it certwainly need some work, but overall -- WOW. It was so easy! Click "Complete Story" below for some observations.

Internet Explorer Sucks

I spent about an hour troubleshooting why a stupid popup window wouldn't work in IE. I tried everything - I renamed the window. I added "void" to the var in the js function calling it. I moved the script inline, and then to a separate script page. I tried everythng, but would always get the same nonsense error: Error: Invalid argument Line: 37 Char: 2 Code:0 on file: scripts.js. When I added it inline, it changed to: Error: Invalid argument Line: 37 Char: 2 Code:0 file: index.php The problem? Apparently, IE cannot process a window name if it has a space in it. Ridiculous!

Pizza Hell!

This is the coolest Pizza place ever. The place is called "Pizza Hell." The pizzas are named after deadly sins, and the pizza box collapses down into a coffin for "your remains." Awesome! Pictures

Cherokee

I played around today with getting Cherokee Web Server to work.  It looks kind of neat, but the docs need some work.

YIKES!

I suppose I really ought to put something new now that Eugenia has indicated she is going to be linking to me! We put in a ridiculous amount of time updating OSNews and Gnomefiles and Dusty-Computing, etc to fix a lot of the old code that was written with register_globals on. I was EXTREMELY happy that Small Axe survived the change with no problems, as did OSGalaxy, which is based on "Galaxy," which used to be a Small Axe beta project called ftBlogroller. Soon I'm going to package that code and release it.

V For Vendetta

Voila! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

New Photoalbum!

Yesterday, I rewrote the sethadam1.com photo album. It's written using Prototype, Script.aculo.us, and Lightbox, along with a lot of my own PHP and Javascript. I'm very excited about a lot of the stuff I've been writing using these "Web 2.0" technologies, and may incorporate some of them into sethadam1.com soon.

Time has passed.

And I, not very surprisingly, have not really blogged very much. Ah well.
